Actions Speak Louder Than Words
I know it's love when a person with a terrible headache waits for me in the car without complaints when I have to drop by a friend's house for work reasons to get some documents.

DNA Testing on Food
If I remember correctly, it's developed with some $900,000 seed money from one of the stat board (which I can't remember which).
It's to prevent food fraud, which means if a packed food labels itself as chicken, the DNA testing will ensure that what's packed is chicken.
Which is great with all the food scares, it will make sure that no dog meat or *gasp* human meat is being passed of as chicken or beef..
But the DNA testing will not be able to tell if the food is poisoned or with toxins! So it means after spending more thtn $900,000, the test can tell me that the chicken I bought is indeed chicken.. but it can't tell me if I will die from eating it in case it's poisoned or filled with toxins?!..
Great!

"Thank You"
A great reminder and reinforcement of my chosen career.
More than the money, the awards and the incentive trips, it is the ability to help people and deliver the cheque when they are most in need.
Delivered the first cheque in my career today. Just helped a client's mum to do a claim. She bought a policy from the bank/road show (she doesn't even remember!). Adviser never seen or heard again since then. She had to call me to help her do the claim.
I'm glad the company and I were able to offer her the best service when she needed it most. The cheque was issued within a week with my persistent calling and checking with the company. Ensuring the necessary documents were submitted, going down to the head office to collect and deliver the cheque personally. The other company that she bought from, she got the cheque today even though the claims were submitted to the company a lot earlier before she called me. And the cheque actually came by POST!
She was very pleased and touched with my efforts. She wasn't even my client, and she had kept putting me off for about 1 year. Always busy and not willing to meet up with me. But I'm glad I delivered when it mattered most. She was very happy that I did my best even though she's not my client.
I always belive true service starts AFTER a sale is made.
The quarterly newsletter that I create for my clients, the annual review planners that I send out, the updates when there are new products or changes in rules and regulations etc.. I do all these after a sale is made with my priority being my clients when other advisers may be too busy trying to get new clients/sales (or just not doing anything!).
Remember: at the point of sale, everybody can provide "good service". It's the after-sale that matters!

Mathematical Equations
then A = B.
Hence, Repeated Action A will result in Repeated Response B,
i.e, xA = xB.
If Action A was supposed to have stopped,
then any Action A will result in a bigger B Response
i.e, A is lesser than B
It's all logical....

Life's Reminder
In the midst of our hustle and bustle..
Pursuing our dreams and superficial materialistic wants..
The reminder that life is unpredictable..
The reminder that there are many other things more important than the way we lose ourselves going through the motions of every single day...
As we grow older, with each passing..
Someone very loved.. Or someone we just know..
Very intertwined paths.. Or very briefly so..
It leaves a print on you.. Never going away with time..
Serving as a reminder the unpredictability of life...
Do heed life's occassional reminder..
The reminder that we will not be around forever..

Economics 101: Scarce resources, Unlimited wants
Travelling!
Never got much chance to travel when I was younger. Perhaps I'm just trying to make up for lost time, now that I'm earning my keeps..
Luckily I'm in the right industry.. Free incentive trips along the way.. Haha..
Sometimes feel very ignorant (read: suaku) when people talk about their overseas trips.. Especially Europe (though for some reason Europe doesn't seem to appeal to me at all at this point in time)..
So I want to open up my eyes.. Travel and see the world!...
So many places I would like to go.. So limited resources..
Next up in August... Bali!!..

Colleague: Once I marry.. I will not think of divorce..
Me: Good.. That should be the way isn't it?
(Thinking to myself.. Very good.. Here's another person like me who has faith in the sanctity of marriage.. The promise of the eternal vow... Til death do us part..)
Colleague: Ya lor.. Because a divorce is very expensive...

But then again.. It's strangely true.. ROM costs you almost next to nothing.. A divorce is probably going to cost you everything.. Financially and emotionally!...

Entrepreneurship in Singapore?
He was a multi billionaire (Thai baht), big-time property investor and developer making lots of money in Thailand. Then the asian financial crisis happened in 1997 and he lost EVERYTHING.
From dealing in millions and billions.. He started earning peanuts (pre-durai peanuts dollars) from selling sandwiches on the streets! From walking around selling sandwiches.. He did well enough to employ more people to help him make the sandwiches.. Then did even better to open bakeries and cafes.. And now he's going to franchise it... AMAZING!!.. Talk about never-say-die and not giving up..
Ok back to the title.. While watching it.. I can't help but think.. If he were in S'pore.. He probably wouldn't have made it back so fast (or at least have to think of another way).. Because if he tried to do that in S'pore...
(1) Minisry of Health (or is it National Environment Agency) will
Give him a warning letter and/or fine and/or jail for
a) producing food without permit
b) selling food without permit
(2) Even if he tried to apply for permits for this it'd probably take forever because he will be pushed to different government agencies and departments until/unless he writes to the newspapers forums where he will then get immediate attention!
(3) Or just like the person who fought to start a business selling food from vans.. Eventually it was allowed.. But they decided to have a ballot for the licenses.. and the original person who had the idea was NOT allocated a license in the end!!.. How fair a system!
(4) Even if he were to be granted with all the licenses and permits.. He'd still fail because just like the mobile vans or the mobile ice-cream motorbike men.. They had rules and regulations to follow.. Such as very limited time where they can operate and very limited areas where they can operate.. Can still remember the restrictions on ice-cream men (before they changed the rules).. Can't sell near schools.. Can't sell near this.. Can't block up the traffice near that.. This and that.. Which basically means.. They can' be selling anywhere near where the crowds are!!.. *pengz*
And we wonder why Singaporeans are not enterprising enough..

Delicacy
We went Tun Lok signatures for Mother's day celebration.
The place looked a lot nicer when I read about it in the papers.
Oh well, it's always the food that matters most.
Food was nice, price was reasonable and best of all, the person attending to us was friendly.
Service always greatly appreciated.. Guess it's because I have to provide service too..
You've just seen the most expensive laksa I've ever tasted and very likely, the most expensive laksa I will ever taste! Laksa from Chatterbox, Marriott hotel.
$32 for the laksa! But then again, it was really nice.. with big portions.. their famous chicken.. And a whole lobster. Luckily we had 50% staff discount through a friend. But it was still too ex by my standards..
Though the above places are nice.. and the food is nice.. My personal favourite out of all the food I've eaten lately is....
*Drum Roll*

Live Commentary.. Coming to a cinema near you..
Question: What can be more irritating than handphones ringing in the middle of a movie?
Answer: When some idiot is giving a live commentary throughout the WHOLE movie!
Handphones ringing in the movie can be very irritating.. Very inconsiderate behaviour.. But.. the thing is.. sometimes it's understandable and forgiveable as long as they don't go on chatting for long.. because people may forget to turn it to silent..
At most it's over in a matter of seconds..
Please tell me what I can do.. When somebody gives a live commentary throughout the whole movie!..
I don't expect people to keep mum for the whole movie.. Because I don't.. I think it's inevitable there will be some whispers along the way.. clarifications here and there..
But what the 2 person seated behind me did was totally puzzling.. Totally disregarding social protocol.. or not understanding the meaning of Shhhh.... or totally inept at understanding body language (of people turning around and staring at them!)..
They went on to give the people around a live commentary such as (after a long time deciding from the many entries that I can put down.. here are the top 3!):
2nd runner-up
When the actor was searching through an ambulance with the words AMBULANCE clearly painted on the side of the vehicle and clearly shown on screen.. the girl went:
"Eh.. Ambulance hor.."
1st runner-up
When a shadow clearly passed by on the screen..
"Eh.. Got people walk past leh.."
My personal favourite
When the actors entered a stadium.. With a field.. Rows of gallery seats etc.. (confirm cannot mistake it for something else.. like shopping mall etc!) she went:
"Eh.. Stadium.."
At this point.. I couldn't help but shot back a reply out loud
"Wah lao.. Idiot also can tell lah.."
That shut them up.. BRIEFLY..
Only can think of 2 scenerios where this "live commentary" can be totally understandable and acceptable..
1) If the friend beside her is intellectually challenged - where he can't comprehend that it's a ambulance or stadium that is being shown on the screen..
2) Her friend is blind - So she needs to give a scene by scene explanation and description
But the last I checked when the movie was over.. They were walking and talking like anybody else I know.. Far from being blind.. Hmm but then.. not too sure about the intellectual part though..
As you can see.. I'm really pissed about the incident coz I haven't wrote such a long entry in a long while..

Michael Buble – Everything
You're the line in the sand when I go too far.
You're the swimming pool, on an August day.
And You're the perfect thing to see.
And you play your card, but it's kinda cute.
Ah, When you smile at me you know exactly what you do.
Baby don't pretend, that you don't know it's true.
Cause you can see it when I look at you.
[Chorus:]
And in this crazy life, and through these crazy times
It's you, it's you, You make me sing.
You're every line, you're every word, you're everything.
You're a carousel, you're a wishing well,
And you light me up, when you ring my bell.
You're a mystery, you're from outer space,
You're every minute of my everyday.
And I can't believe, uh that I'm your man,
And I get to kiss you baby just because I can.
Whatever comes our way, ah we'll see it through,
And you know that's what our love can do.
[Chorus:]
So, La, La, La, La, La, La, LaSo, La, La, La, La, La, La, La

Goal Setting...
The conversation went something like this...
Buddy: I'm hoping my assingments this year will get me $40,000.
Me: Why $40,000? Go for $100,000!
My rationale:
If you choose not to be like everybody else with an office job..
Then you better aim for a income that is not like everybody else with an office job..
Why go through all the stress and emotional roller-coaster of being being your own boss when you are going for a income like $40,000?
Might as well just find a comfortable job that pays you that amount with probably less stress..
And aiming for $100,000, even if you don't hit, you'd still get $80,000-$90,000.
Not that bad a deal...
Note:
I'm not saying employees have less stress...
It's just different kind of stress...
I'm not saying employees aren't earning $100,000 or higher income at this age..
I know of people who do!
One is NOT better/superior than the other..
I'm just referring to the different mindset.. different strategy.. different goal in this game of money..

My Mum: The Super Woman in disguise!...
But have been real busy and so didn't feel like blogging much..
But here it goes..
Reasons why I feel my mum is a Super Woman in disguise.. (Just a few of many many many reasons):
1) One fine day when I returned home from work.. One cabinet disappeared from the living room.. It's the heavy bulky book shelf kind!.. My mum managed to get rid of it all by herself when I'd think it'd take 2-3 guys to carry it!.. Don't know how she managed to do it!.. She just told me.. Just drag and pull lor.. My gosh!...
2) She has been waking up at 4-5am every morning.. and leaving the house by 530am to head to work.. Before my sis and I started working.. She'd be doing that almost 7 days a week.. and with overtime.. working til about 7pm.. Confirmed superwoman!.. If I can work this kind of hours in my industry.. I'd be a millionaire by now! haha..
3) My mum fractured her wrist recently.. Her hand was in a cast.. But in a few days time.. she was back at doing the laundry, ironing etc.. When I told her to rest and that I will do it.. But she kept saying it's ok.. and did everything when I'm out working... She's simply amazing!!
My mum has set such a high standard! Haha..

Workaholic?
An incentive trip from my Manager for hitting last year's goal...
But the problem is.. I don't feel like going..
Because.. I'd rather be working! Haha...
I've been told.. that's probably a sign of workaholism(?)..
I don't know about that.. But maybe of course the trip though is a great token of appreciation from my Manager.. it's not exactly something really great or exciting..
Maybe that explains why I'm not overly excited about it.. and I'd rather be working back here..
Well.. It's NOT like I prefer working to relaxing and going for a short trip out of the country.. But sometimes to to achieve our goals.. Some sacrifices are inevitable..
Otherwise.. Where's the joy and sense of achievement in achieving a goal that is too easily within grasp?

Office Humour..
Incident 1:
Work that is taking too long;
"I didn't clear my work because.....
I'm sentimental....
So I held on to it."
Amazing excuse, isn't it?! Haha.. I think it can be completed faster if her creativity and energy isn't spent on coming up with such a wonderful excuse!
Incident 2:
A half empty bottle of apple juice has been left on the desk for months..
Repeated attempts to "suggest" that it be thrown away failed..
Her reason for doing so..
"I purposely want to leave it there...
So that I can see...
What is growing inside."

Greatest Story Ever Told - Oliver James
I've gotta say how beatuiful you are
Of all the hopes and dreams I could have prayed for
Here you are
If I could have one dance forever
I would take you by the hand
Tonight it's you and I together
I'm so glad I'm your man
And if I lived a thousand years
You know I'd never could explain
The way I lost my heart to you that day
But if destiny decided I should look the other way
Then the world would never know
The greatest story ever told
And did I tell you that I love you tonight
I don't hear the music
When I'm looking in you eyes
But I feal the rythm of your body close to mine
It's the way we touch that sends me
It's the way we'll always be
Your kiss your pretty smile you know I die for
Oh baby You are all I need
And if i lived a thousand years you know I'd never could explain
The way I lost my heart to you that day
But if destiny decided I should look the other way
Then the world would never know
The greatest story ever told
And did I tell you that I love you just how mutch I really need you
Did I tell you that I love you tonight

"Sometimes all that happens when your dream comes true..
Is a slow, melting realisation that it wasn't what you thought."
Another notable quote from Mitch Albom's For One More Day..
Quite a scary thought isn't it?..
I've always loved his books because sometimes we can be so focused on pursuing careers.. success.. status.. that we lose sight of life and what's important around us like our loved ones..
His books help to put things in perspective.. and get you to reflect on life..
With reference to the above quote though.. Which do you think is worse.. For you to achieve your dream and realise it isn't what you thought?.. Or for you to never achieve your dream and wonder what it could have been?..

Did you see on the news.. how many fans there were at the airport to receive the national soccer team back from their ASEAN cup triumph?
Would you feel happy if you were one of the players?..
I think I would feel disgusted..
Where were the fans when the team was losing.. and going through a rough patch?.. Where were the fans when the team was leaving for the tournament?..
Just like fans.. Friends are the same.. The ones that were with you when you are down.. The ones that were there to support you and encourage you when you were starting out and struggling.. These are the friendships and brotherhood that is sealed for life!..
And it's friends..brothers.. girlfriend.. spouse.. loved ones.. that helped you along the way.. that you remember and treasure.. that you would love to enjoy your success with in future... the ones that really stuck with you.. through thick and thin...

Another great book by Mitch Albom. This book is about life and death (actually come to think of it.. so are the other 2 haha...) His books are one of the few that really makes it very difficult for you to put down. Great stories about love and life. Simple and easy to read..
Was out of town to Sunway for my organisation's planning retreat.. I hate taking those long coach rides up Malaysia.. Worry over toilet breaks.. Long and tiring journey.. Tired but can't really sleep.. And after a while.. Every position is uncomfortable.. The only good thing is.. I can catch up on some reading..
I have a habit of writing down notes/quotes/phrases that I find meaningful as I read.. This paragraph in the first few pages of the book.. I can so relate to it (unfortunately)..
"Have you ever lost someone you love and wanted one more conversation,
one more chance to make up for the time when you thought they would be here forever?"
Life and Death.. Part and parcel of life.. A very sad part..
So show your love to the people that matters.. EVERYDAY..

It feels like I've been eating non-stop because
(1) Gathering with friends now are usually makan sessions for a variety of reasons.. Mainly:
a) To cater to the different knock-off timings where the early birds can eat away first..
b) Makan sessions make chit chat sessions possible (unlike movie sessions)..
c) Too tired/lazy to go clubbing (where again you can't chat)..
(2) I eat when I'm feeling
a) Stressed
b) Upset
Just had some bread... and finished like half a litre of fruit juice.. and I'm not even hungry!...
At this rate that I'm going coupled with a lack of exercise.. I'm going to be one big huggable teddy bear by the end of the year..
Cut down food intake.. Increase activities to burn fats!...

Checked out a friend's blog today.. And was reminded of a book I read some time back.. the five people you meet in heaven by Mitch Albom.
"But all endings are also beginnings.
We just don't know it at the time."
It is sooooo true, don't you think?
In almost everything.. Life and Death.. Careers.. Schools.. Relationships..
One simple phrase.. Many applications..
All beginnings have endings..
But please let the new beginning have a happy ending..
I love his books starting with Tuesdays with Morrie..
His books are very "intense" and "emotional" (for a lack of a better word due to my limited vocab haha...)
Next on the list For One More Day (if i remember correctly).. Gotta find time for it.. Once I get my hands on it..

Beautiful
I dont know
If Im the one for you in this life
I cant help
Hearing my voice calling your name
Cuz when I
Trying so hard not to look in your eyes
Maybe I
Have fallen in love with you
Well tonight
Maybe this time I can hear your breathe
Its alive
To see you smile with those tears in your eyes
They may say
That youre just a girl in this spinning world
In my heart
Youre like the world to me
Touch my hand; feel my heart
Hold me close and Youll find me
Youll find me
I cant so describe
How I feeling deep inside
So much more than I can say
With your touch it feels so right
Oh my, youre so near
All the time in this place
For I know in my heart
Ill never let you go
In this lifetime
Do you know why oh baby
Cus youre just so
Beautiful to me

I really should be sleeping now.. It's a long day tmr..
But I think it's going to be another sleepless night..
Haven't felt this shitty in a long while..
And something I read in the papers today just keep going through my head right now..
"In business, you can plan and strategise, but with women, it's just impossible!"
A little trust with a whole lot of faith.. A little trust with a whole lot of faith.. A little trust with a whole lot of faith.. A little trust with a whole lof of faith.. A little trust with a whole lot of faith..

For those who were concerned.. And who even knew I was sick..
Thanks for the concern.. I'm feeling a whole lot better already..
But it's just a cold.. Relax.. Though I did feel very weak..
Or maybe it was the drowsiness from the medicine.. I can't really tell haha..
The few days that I was sick.. I've realised.. The child in me is dying to break free...
That's the time when I feel like a small kid all over again..
When all I want and need is just to snuggle up and be patted to sleep like a small kid all over again...
Many... Many... Many years ago...
And that doesn't happen very often.. Because I've always been told.. That I'm too mature for my age.. Too mature for my own good.. And I should really learn to RELAX...
But I definitely don't mind.. being pampered like a small kid again... ONCE IN A WHILE...

First week into the new year and I'm sick..
Probably due to all the stress and running around in Dec..
Not that I consider it a bad start to the year..
I see it more like the body needs some rest..
My body is pretty much a clock work when it comes to falling sick..
From days in the uni.. I always fall sick after each semester exams..
So that was like twice a year...
Now the stressful time is only once a year.. So maybe that will mean I only fall sick once a year? haha..
Thankfully though, it didn't feel like I wasted my days away (except for today where I just slept the whole day)..
Finally got the filing done... THANK YOU!

How many people does it take to cut some Ham?
As proven during a X'mas gathering...
